Top 5 mobile apps which are used for dating in 2019
It's not easy to search for the perfect mate, but your
smartphone can help
If you're in the mood for a romance in summer, check out the
best dating apps to help you find the right one... Or the right thing right
now. You may notice that many of these apps now belong to Match Group, which
also operates Tinder, Hinge, eHarmony, OKCupid and Plenty of Fish in addition
to its own Match.com service.
Still, the various apps focus on different things, so some
may be better than others for your own needs.
Facebook (Android, iOS)
After test runs in other countries, Facebook Dating, first
unveiled back in 2018, launched in the U.S. Within Facbook's mobile app
(Android, iOS), you can access the Dating section by setting up a Dating
profile separate from your regular Facebook profile. From there, on the social
networking site, Facebook will find matches for you based on your preferences,
interests and activities.
Facebook will not suggest matches between people you already
know on Facebook unless you use the Secret Crush feature of the service that
allows you to select up to nine Facebook friends or Instagram followers you are
interested in. If they also express interest in you through Secret Crush, you
will be matched by Facebook.
You are currently able to add Instagram posts to your Facebook
dating profile, and you will soon be able to share your dating profile with
Facebook and Instagram stories. In addition to the U.S., 19 other countries
have Facebook Dating available.
Tinder (Android; iOS)
Tinder (Android, iOS) paved the way for a world of swipe and
scroll dating apps set by Grindr. Tinder encourages you to make shallow, snap
judgments on potential partners on her face. With a handful of photos and a few
sentences about yourself, you create a simple profile, then throw yourself at
the mercy of the Internet.
In your area, the app displays singles. Swipe the photo to
the right if you like one; otherwise swipe to the left. You can send messages
and set up something if you swipe both right. Tinder keeps tinkering with its
formula, with recent additions including a video looping feature and a
geolocation-based location to find matches that share your hips.
Bumble (Android; iOS)
Bumble (Android, iOS) aims to allow you in your area to make
new dates or friends. The queen bee (any female) has to make the first move
with this app after two people connect each other and are part of the hive of
each other. There is not much time to waste — there are only 24 hours to make
some kind of contact, or the connection will forever disappear.
Either person has to make a move within 24 hours before that
connection is gone for same-sex connections or friendships, although you can
get a 24-hour extension. Looking to expand your friends circle as opposed to
relationship? Bumble has a BFF feature for individuals who do not seek dates
and a separate section for business contacts. The upgrade to the Bumble Boost,
ranging from $2.99 to $8.99, makes meeting or date people easier and faster. A
recent update to Bumble added video and voice chat features that appear once
you've made Date, Bizz, and BFF connections with people.
OkCupid (Android; iOS)
OkCupid (Android, iOS) has a powerful user base and simple
dating tools. But OKC keeps refining and adding features to its apps rather
than rest on their laurels, All this is in addition to the messaging tools of
OkCupid, quizzes of personality, integration of Instagram and other old
favorites. A premium subscription adds other features such as sophisticated
search tools and the ability to see users that you liked.
Match.com (Android; iOS)
Match.com offers a free dating experience for its users on
Android and iOS. Free users can set up online profiles, upload some of their
own pictures, then flirt with "winks" online, and have new matches
delivered to them daily.
A Match.com subscription can unlock more comprehensive
features such as the ability to see who checked out your profile and liked your
pictures. Match has continued to add features such as the integration of a
Tinder-like mixer, Android Wear and Apple Watch, as well as adding voice and
video snippets to your profile.
Match also tests a telephone-based service called AskMatch
that will get you in touch with a dating coach for advice and guidance.
AskMatch is currently available in New York City, although it is hoped that the
dating service will bring it across the country by 2020.
